For Exercise 7

Topic: Google's Nexus One

Apple's iPhone is facing a big challenge since its domination in the smartphone market as its competitor has just emerged. Nexus One, a smartphone developed by Google, has just launched its sales in the US market this week. Hong Kong and Singapore are the two cities which enjoy the premier sales in Asia. We can get the phone being delivered at out home by ordering it on Google's website. Comparing to iPhone which you are bounded to only 2 service providers in HK, we can make our own decision to subscribe to any service provider which supports Nexus One.

One of the attractive features of Nexus One is its software platform for mobile devices, Android, which is based on the Linux operating system and developed by Google and the Open Handset Alliance. From one of a user's twitter's notes“Google Phone = iPhone + a little extra screen and a scroll wheel. Great touch screen, and Android.”

I've tried iPhone before and it is undeniable that it's amazing to have easy access to the multimedia through such a portable device. I expecially enjoyed its touch screen and photo viewing function. However, the price of iPhone comparing to an ordinary cameraphone is far too expensive and I know I would use only a few of its applications. What I need for a mobile phones is to make calls, text messaging and its alarm function. Occassionally, I would take snapshots of funny things. So, it seems that I don't have the need for a smartphone at the moment.

  2. I also think Nexus One is nice but I am a happy iPhone user. lol
I use it as a micro-computer. I use it to organise my life. And I text A LOT! I like the virtual keyboard very much. The time of making calls is far less than surfing the internet and listening to music.
